Cloverhill History

Cloverhill Food ingredients Ltd founded in 2003 in Millstreet, Co Cork by Dan Buckley is a private limited Irish family run company.

Prior to setting up Cloverhill, Dan Buckley, worked in a technical sales capacity for 15 years with leading global food ingredient manufacturers Griffith Laboratories (USA), Dalgety Food Ingredients (UK) and Kerry Ingredients (Irl).

Dan identified a niche gap in the Irish food ingredients market and set out on his own.

Whilst working as an employee of multinational companies Dan realized

  • That the major food processors like to purchase from other big companies

  • The lead times of the major companies were often too long and minimum orders too big to dovetail with the needs of small and medium sized food processors

  • Manufacturers using couriers for multi drop deliveries to bakeries who open early but often close early, regularly became a logistical nightmare.

  • These ingredient manufacturing companies mainly sold their own products only.

Dan felt that he could solve the minimum order problem by selling a wider range of products from a number of ingredient suppliers thereby increasing the order size and giving the food processor a one stop delivery for all food ingredient supplies with delivery cost and administration savings for the processor

Cloverhill sells a comprehensive list of ingredients ranging from basic products like flour, salt, sugar and spices to more technical items like bread improvers, curing mixes, starter cultures and enzymes.

The main customers of the company are small and medium sized manufacturers in the bakery, dairy and meat industries.
In 2005, Cloverhill acquired the Irish business of George Shackleton & Co

  • In 2006 Cloverhill was the winner of the Ulster Bank Invoice Finance/ Irish Independent Business Achievers Award. Read the article in the Irish Independent here
